Healing Zambia’s Trauma

Bringing Hope, One Heart at a Time

The African Republic of Zambia has a silent killer on the loose — a cholera outbreak. This merciless disease spreads quickly in places where clean water and safe toilets are hard to find.

A great surge of sickness began in cities last October. Within a week the number of cases nearly doubled and continues to rise today.

The President of Zambia urges people to relocate from the capitol and other large cities to villages because sanitation is so poor in urban areas. Along with the health emergency, fear compounds the trauma.

The epicenter of this trauma lies in Lusaka, where our dedicated team stands on the frontlines, meeting with churches to help them become centers of healing.

This Matters

While this may not make international headlines like the war in Gaza, this trauma is dire.

Our team felt the pain of this trauma when they met 10-year-old Sammy and, later, his pastor. Sammy’s father died of cholera two months ago.

With the family living in a small shanty, he could not escape watching his dad suffer with severe vomiting and diarrhea until he passed. Soon after, his year-old toddler brother also came down with the disease and died. Sammy had nowhere to turn in his horror and grief. Mom was completely overwhelmed from their loss. Sammy tried to talk with his pastor, who was kind but didn’t know how to offer much comfort. These losses are hitting many of the families in his small church.

Churches: More Than Words

“Trust in God,” we quickly say. True, but with fierce pain, words alone fall short. Reclaim Life puts faith into action. We’ve partnered with over a dozen churches in Lusaka, empowering them to respond effectively to trauma. Here’s how:

1. Trauma-Healing Small Groups: Fear and grief find release, replaced by hope. These carefully structured groups provide a safe space for healing.

2. Restoring Relationships: Trauma damages families and friendships. Lives rebuild as broken bonds reconnect. Emotional healing that one person experiences becomes a gift that can be given to another.

Please Help Us Help Them

1. Give: Your help is needed right now to equip churches. $500 supports a church for a year with coaching and materials so it can be trauma responsive. $50 supports a healing small group for 10 people. $10 provides a session-by-session guide for a group participant—a lifeline for someone who is searching for healing. Gifts of $10,000 and larger allow us to launch in a new area with added teams. We would love to discuss that possibility with you. Email us here.

2. Spread the Word: You care about this trauma. Thank you. Please help others hear about it and care also.

Together, We Heal

An important principle about trauma healing is that it only happens when people connect together to support each other. This is essential for hurting people in Zambia.

It is the same for us with you. We can only spread healing if we can connect with you: You support us and together, we support churches in Zambia. Let’s release healing in the world’s hardest places.

Every dollar genuinely makes a difference.

Thank you for being a beacon of hope!
